An old sweater, a blanket that is no longer useful to the family it once served, a long-forgotten mitten - these are the items I gather to make the fulled wool felt I use in my work. Stitching by hand, I piece together my scraps of wool and vintage linen, velvet, and silk, adding carefully chosen antique buttons and other found objects, to create my whimsical interpretations of traditional folk art objects. I treasure the sense of history I feel when I am handling these abandoned details of life. I find, lately, that I am drawn more to what I think of as the "flat" fabrics - the linens, cottons, silk, and velvet. My piles and piles of woolens are languishing ... I'm actually starting to sell them off in bundles.
